Hiten Khatau, scion of the reputed industrialist family of Khatau, was born on 19 June 1958. He completed his Senior Cambridge from Mumbai’s prestigious Campion School in 1975 and proceeded to finish his B Com with Honours from in 1978. He qualified as a chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1981 and went on to join the family business as a Director with Khatau Industries.


In the early 1980s, a major strike by textile workers paved the way for a change in the growth curve of the city. Like most other textile giants, the Khatau Group diversified into various industries like dyestuffs, chemicals, international trading, shipping, real estate development, electrical capacitors and cables, turnkey projects, footwear, sports and leather products.


Hiten quickly expanded his business acumen by gaining experience in the group’s other companies like Cable Corporation of India Ltd, Varun Shipping Company Ltd and Indokem Ltd. These diverse industries gave him insights into a range of businesses and he learned the essence of business management on the shop floor. He capped his hardcore practical training with an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.


He took over as Director In-Charge of Cable Corporation of India Ltd in 1994, and became its Chairman and Managing Director in 1995. His able guidance has seen the company through many a rough spot and his team has responded to challenges confidently and professionally. He has served on the International Board of Directors of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO) which is an alliance of more than 17,000 CEOs from over 100 countries. He also serves as a non-executive Director on the Board of Directors of various reputed companies.


When not working, Hiten enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends. His interests include theatre, music, reading and sports like tennis, squash & cricket. He is married to Nandini. The couple has 2 daughters, Purna & Maithili, aged 29 & 27and a son, Rohan aged 24.
