14 July 1994 Cable Corporation installed and commissioned 2.4 kms of 230kV 500 sqmm XLPE cable for Hydroelectric project in Kadamparai, Tamilnadu
Kadamparai Hydro electric project- This was the first EHV 230kV cable supplied by an Indian company in India. This was followed by Kadamparai stage II, Hydro electric projects. All these projects were undertaken in turnnels under difficultworking condition.
TNEB’s underground Hydel Power Plant consists of 4 units of 100 MW each.Power Generated is transferred through 230 kv single core cable of 500 sq mm Aluminium conductor xlpe cables.Cables were Laid in a VERTICAL TUNNEL of 165 mts, and terminated at an overhead sub-station, for onward transmission through overhead lines.The cable length per phase was 730 mts.
The job involved terminating cable on transformer with inverted terminations, onto gallery, through the vertical shaft, the verandah and finally to the termination on overhead line connections. Criticality was designing free suspenders along route, grouting & snaking cables through the shaft, & Controlled pulling of cable through the entire route, especially along shaft length.
230KV XLPE CABLES were laid in inclined shaft for Hydro electric project. A view of Porcelain out door terminations under connection is shown adjacent.
The job was similar to kadambarai, except that the shaft was inclined 60 degrees to horizontal.
The cable was 230 kv single core 400 sq mm Aluminium and was used to evacuate power generated by three 75 MW units.
Nine cables were laid in trefoil in a single inclined shaft.
26 April 2005 Cable Corporation created history again by commissioning 132 kV XLPE cable across River Ganges in Bihar on Mahatma Gandhi Setu. The total route length was 6.774 kms.with 5.2 kms under the bridge.

The cables are laid below the bridge on suspended Hanger Cables were laid on cement wracks below the road on the Ganga Bridge. It was great effort to take the cables from ground to above the bridge and arrange them in trefoil formation. The cables were commissioned in april 2005.
The job required lifting of cable to height of 40 mts , laying , dressing , trefoiling of two circuits & all jointing done at that height on hangers barely 1.7 mts width.
On 15th June 1998 Cable Corporation of India created History by laying and commissioning a Submarine cable 4 x 95 sqmm YLyYWW2Y 1.1kv 600 mtrs from main land to Vivekananda rock and 200 mtrs from Vivekananda rock to Tiruvalluvar rock in Indian ocean., in kanyakumari at the congruence of three seas viz Indian ocean, bay of Bengal & Arabian sea.
The cables were laid on sea bed and the depths are 3.2 mtrs and 1.5 mtrs. Cables were protected by Heavy duty PVC pipes,RCC Cable sinkers (COVERS) were fixed to keep the cables without movement at 5 meter interval., since the sea is very rough at this location
On 20th Dec 2007 island of Betdwaraka in Gujarat was electrified after turnkey project of cable and Installation under sea of 11kV XLPE cable for a route of 3kms under sea was commissioned. This was a unique project as four single lengths of 3km cable were laid between Okha and Betdwaraka. As sea in this place is a Gulf, the sea currents were very strong. Power supplied to the island brought relief to devotees and residents of this island which is a main tourist pilgrimage centre.
The job involved survey of sea bed , evaluating the route , study of tidal patterns, the right time for the cable laying etc. Before the laying of cable under sea, bet dwaraka was , getting power supply from diesel generators, installed at the island. The fuel was carried to the island everyday at high costs..and was very inadequate to the needs of the island leading to power cuts, unstabilised power etc. With the availability of power the government is considering establishment of a residential university, and establish small industries catering to needs of the island.

CCI has been at the forefront of city upgradation systems.
The very early upgradation in Karnataka & Kerala with 66 kv cable systems were designed , supplied , erected & commissioned by CCI.
Similarly early 110kv systems at Tamil Nadu were executed by CCI.
Presently Cable Corporation is executing 132 kilometers of 1200 sqmm 230kV cable project for TNEB in Chennai city. being part of Master Plan for the expansion of power supply system to cater to the growth in demand, to minimize the distribution losses and to improve the system reliability in the Chennai Metropolitan AreaCable Corporation has received another prestigious order from TNEB for 129 kilometers 230 kv cables , a turnkey project., being part of the above scheme.
The above have contributed in Cable corporation executing a number of projects over last 25 years and has more than 350kms of EHV cable to its credit., and executing 200 kms presently.
